Dr. Kyung-shick Choi Interviewed by WestEd Justice & Prevention Research Center
WestEd's Justice & Prevention Research Center (JPRC) in August published an interview with BU MET Professor Kyung-shick Choi about ransomware and the vulnerability of institutions to cyberattack. Dr. Choi, director of BU MET’s graduate programs on cybercrime investigation and cybersecurity, discussed such questions as who is most vulnerable to attack, who are the perpetrators, and what can be done about cybercrime.
As he explained: “The development of ransom encryption software and Bitcoin have greatly facilitated this crime. And it shows no evidence of slowing down… Combatting ransomware attacks will take a multipronged effort. Government agencies, industries, and individuals need to continuously address their cyber systems.”
WestEd is a nationally recognized nonprofit research, development, and service agency, while JPRC conducts and disseminates research and evaluation to address crime, violence and injustice.
