"I believe that education in the cybercrime and cybersecurity field can facilitate rapid social welfare changes and establish social justice in our contemporary society. In order to accomplish my ambitions of becoming as refined a teacher-scholar as possible, I constantly work toward building the strongest possible scholarship so that I can effectively deliver and share what knowledge and skills I gain with students."
- Dr. Kyung-shick Choi
Director, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity
Dr. Choi contributed in the very first White Hat Conference which was held last March in Bogota, Colombia. Through an interview with a news media he explained the importance of ethical hackers sharing information and highlighted the role of cybercriminology in fighting against cybercrime. Bogota was specifically chosen as the location of the first conference as Dr. Choi witnessed high interest in cybercriminology in the area among the people and various institutions. Also, Mike Toro, major of the Colombian National Police who also is Dr. Choi’s apprentice expressed support in discussing the topic of cybercrime in Latin America. When asked about the meaning of cybercriminology, Dr. Choi answered, “it is the multidisciplinary approach that helps us to understand the nature of crime in cyberspace”. He goes on to explain that it is important for ethical hackers to learn and understand all factors of cybercrime including legal aspects to better protect us, which in turn helps understand cybersecurity and cybercrime as a whole.
