ESPOL (Postgraduate School of the National Police of Colombia) hosted the 2nd International Congress of Criminology and Victimology on September 24-26, 2019 in Bogotá, Colombia. ESPOL invited experts and scholars in criminal justice and criminology from various countries (e.g., Belgium, Canada, England, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and USA) in order to gather global wisdom and share knowledge to resolve the critical issues in the contemporary society. The participants presented a wide range of topics related to criminology and victimology including child abuse, minor victimization, reentry and restorative justice, critical criminal investigation methods, peacemaking, uses of DNA evidence and its database construction, cybercriminology, and cyberpolicing.
Dr. Hyeyoung Lim, vice president of the Center for CIC and Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, presented the contemporary trend in cybercriminology, how criminological theories have been applied to explain cybercrimes and the prevention of cybercrimes as an invited speaker. She also participated in the panel discussion that Mayor Marlon Mike Toro Alvarez, our Liasion officer in Latin America, served as the moderator. The panelists discussed cybercrime and its prevention strategies and shared their experience from both field and academia.
